Title: Treat yourself as you would a friend: Self-compassion has intrapersonal and interpersonal benefits
Abstract: Self-compassion refers to a way of relating to the self when faced with a setback, failure, or difficulty of some kind. It entails treating the self with kindness and warmth, recognizing that failures are a part of the shared human experience, and taking a balanced approach to one’s pain and suffering. In this talk, I will share findings from my lab on several intrapersonal and interpersonal benefits of practicing self-compassion, with a focus on self-improvement and authenticity. I’ll conclude by outlining some recent directions in our research on self-compassion, including how it may be impact classroom engagement in academic settings.
